If you want to take pictures, get up and get out there. Sunrise pictures are still among my favourites and I have found a perfect setting for them. These were taken from the pedestrian bridge over the irrigation canal where it comes into Chestermere Lake.

Later that morning I went for the second ride of spring . The pathway is completely clear of snow, or any trace of moisture for that matter. I could hear the dry grass crunching under my tires, a sound I normally would associate with autumn, not spring. I can't help noticing the number of temperature records we've broken lately, many of which were set in 1930. If something doesn't change soon, this year has all the makings of a major drought year.

There is very little water in the canal yet almost every square inch of what there is has geese or ducks floating on it. Spring courtship rites are in full swing. The five birds up on the shore are bachelors, strutting their stuff; down on the water are all the couples.

Two by two they came...

Soulmate to soulmate...

Eventually, we find each other.

My wife and I have been together now for seventeen years and like the geese, I believe it's for life. She is my soulmate and I am hers. Whatever form the next life takes, I know we will find each other.
